Dear Editor,
To assert that togetherness is what society needs might sound cliché.
To say that we need Jesus might seem impractical.
To say that we need more stringent and punitive laws might be interpreted as being counter to human rights and modernity.
Domestic murders still feature heavily in our murder statistics. Marcus Garvey’s repatriation message was partly based on his notion that togetherness might not be prudent, if at all possible, for parties who are inherently in conflict with each other.
We also know that good and evil need not be in togetherness, which they cannot, to be at peace. However, the togetherness which I am presently interested in is that of man and woman, mother and child, siblings, and even squaddies.
It was reported that just after the shooting attack on slain police officer Corporal Judith Williams, she shouted that, “Only Jesus can save” her. But, perhaps being together with a colleague or two might have helped also.
Incidentally, Jesus was jeeringly and contemptuously demanded to save himself at His crucifixion. Jesus was alone on that one, but a flu-battered medical doctor was not when her mother got her better with some home remedies.
Likewise, it is a concern of mine that our women vehemently reject the Sharia Law, which insists that a woman should always be in the company of an associated male figure. This would serve to help protect the “weaker vessel”, while providing the “emptier vessel” with some substance in the form of purpose and sense of worth.
May we be together, as we were designed, and if not, then may it be without hatred.
