Opposing for the sake of opposing is foolishness

Dear Editor,

The Observer’s consistency in insisting that the political parties should put Jamaica first is a breath of fresh air in an environment of political pollution.

I wish to wholeheartedly support your editorial of Friday, May 20, 2016, ‘We have a new Gov’t; 50% plus one is still a majority’.

I see how the US Congress has tried to oppose everything that President Obama has done from the moment he was elected and how America has suffered. It is the same approach the PNP is taking to the new Government.

Dr Peter Phillips should remember that if his policies and programmes were all that successful, his party would not have lost the election. People were suffering and were tired of the unfulfilled promises. Empty promises can’t put food on the table.

How much longer would we have to wait to see the promises fulfilled? Look how long the PNP was in power with little or nothing to show for it.

Even if it’s not perfect, the JLP has already fulfllled one of its election promises, to put more money in people’s pockets. The Government deserves a chance to see if its policies and programmes can work. Opposing for the sake of opposing is foolishness.
