Obama is just too right

Dear Editor,

I commend the American political delegates and voters for having chosen Barack Obama to be their president for the previous two presidential terms. He was clearly the right man for the job. He was one who would certainly put being American above all other titles, which was further supported by his desire for America to be a “better” nation, not just a better-off one. Obama may have been right, also, in saying that he would have won a third consecutive term if he had run in the next US national elections.

Americans seem to be very keen on the market value of anything they are involved in, from their election campaigns to fighting wars. This is one of the reasons for a presidential hopeful which would traditionally be considered to be a poor prospect such as Donald Trump to have got his critics to start paying attention, and perhaps respect, to his formidability. Also, and more importantly, because of how well President Obama handled his designated task, and what a tough task it was and still is, the vacuum which he is leaving behind, has left Americans, and the world by extension, quite apprehensive about this anaemic crop of present candidates. Plus, they lack that refreshing and intelligent predictability, and respectful sense of humour that Obama possesses.

A similar sense of panic had beset the biblical children of Israel at the passing of Joshua, their very faithful leader. It was also quite demoralising for the disciples on the crucifixion and eventual re-ascendance to Heaven of their champion, Jesus Christ. However, I suppose Judah and the Jesus-promised “comforter” had done well in taking over from the two, respectively. I bet if it were another US President, for example a George W Bush, who was leaving office, Americans would have no problem in selecting a “very” suitable replacement. This is perhaps why some wish so much for Trump to be president, so that they can literally be “begged” to replace him in the subsequent elections.
