Dear Editor,
Culinary tourism or food tourism is the exploration of food as the purpose of tourism. It is now considered a vital component of the tourism experience.
Dining out is common among tourists and “food is believed to rank alongside climate, accommodation, and scenery” in importance to tourists.
In Jamaica we are proud to have authentic culinary tours which have won rave reviews by tourists visiting the island. Among them Falmouth Food Tour which has earned for two consecutive years the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence, and has won a coveted spot in the international travel guide Lonely Planet, and other accolades.
It is imperative that we recognise the efforts of such outstanding Jamaican entrepreneurs who have converted a small business, in less than five years, into a coveted tourism culinary attraction, which is not only benefiting the island, but also the community of Falmouth. It is imperative that we continue to promote our spectacular culinary brand which has won international acclaim and offer more such opportunities for our visitors to enjoy a memorable and tasteful tour of the island.
