Frequent flyer Portia suffers from cognitive dissonance

Dear Editor,

I was in utter shock when I recently observed that the Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller had tweeted that Prime Minister Andrew Holness should honour his commitment to increase the minimum wage.

From her utterances, it shows a lack of patriotism on her part, because she had totally cast aside, at that moment, our athletes competing at the Olympics.

Prime Minister Holness appropriately responded: “Tonight belongs to our athletes. Let’s set politics aside for just a few hours.”

In addition, she went on a political platform, while speaking to party supporters in Mandeville, and she indicated that when she was in office she was often criticised for her many travels.

It appears that Simpson Miller is suffering from cognitive dissonance to the extreme level. She holds on to the belief that once she is in office, it is OK to jet set all around the world from the taxpayers’ purse and the Jamaican populace should accept it and she should not be questioned. However, once she is out of the office, the new prime minister should not dare travel outside of the country to support our athletes on the largest athletics stage.

The thinking is most hypocritical. Simpson Miller is considered the queen of frequent flyers and now she criticises.

Simpson Miller, the Jamaican people would like to know what your plans are to reduce your carbon footprint going forward... Oops, I forgot, you no longer run the country, therefore, there will be no excessive travelling on your part for a long time.
