Dear Editor,
I recall a story told by my pastor when I was a child going to Sunday school: A pig will always be a pig. You catch him, bathe him, feed him, put a red ribbon on him, and make him attractive; but when you let him go he is back in the mud again.
Usain Bolt grew up in a God-fearing home in which his parents encouraged good values and attitudes. They are still setting the example that good parents do for their children, irrespective of his age.
As bad as Usain’s frolicking with those girls looked — and I was very disturbed when I saw the clip online — nothing is wrong with Bolt’s desire to have fun. He has the right. He is his own big man as he is a 30-year-old adult professional.
The accolades of ambassador, Order of Jamaica, honourable doctor, you name it, are for what he has achieved. Let’s give Father God thanks for the abilities he blessed him with.
But, we have known he is a party man in his spare time.
Nonetheless, Bolt must be reminded that integrity is paramount. His successes in the field of sport have elevated him to the highest level. The accolades bestowed on him by the powers of Jamaica automatically set the stage for him to maintain decorum that is above the ordinary. He wears some hats to which he must be accountable wherever he goes, whether he is seen or not. Whether he is a Christian or not, he is answerable to Almighty God. And I know he prays, as he often does so before and after his races. Also, his conduct and conversations represent both himself and his whole country.
Many have achieved fame and greatness before him and have exited the spotlight in reasonable form. I hope this fiasco teaches him lesson.
Now rise up, hold your head up, and walk!
