Dear Editor,
I am now fully convinced that ugliness, badness, stupidity sell. It was in that regard that I stopped writing letters to media houses — I usually have very mundane to decent comments to make.
I was however forced to dust off my pen and re-engage the media in, as is my practice, something uplifting – sorry, I saw no naked politician or drunken pastor (lol).
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is in a mess, but even in that mess, we are encouraged. There is a JUTC dispatcher in the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre whose interaction with the crowd is remarkable. She takes the old, the mothers and fathers with babies or young children and she allows them to stand aside. As soon as their required bus appears, she walks over to the driver and ushers them inside the bus, thereby not allowing them in the crunch and crush of the crowd. Strangely enough, it was an English couple who noted her consistence.
It is simple, but simplicity is not the way of a lot of Jamaicans who love to appear powerful and in charge.
What’s more, she watches the crowd and inquires when the next bus for that crowded gathering is due.
I wish to commend her for her compassion, wisdom and her customer service ability. I am wondering if she is the one who was commended by RJR one morning. Boy, I did not want to approach her myself to tell her what a wonderful job she is doing, so I asked a driver for her name. I believe he said it was Miss Cutie.
Well, Ms Cutie, the passengers of Portmore believe you are doing an extraordinary job, and may you train the others to do likewise. We need someone like you for the August Town and Gordon Town routes.
