Dear Editor,
The Government of Jamaica needs to call in IT professionals to have a meeting to discuss possible solutions to impact the spate of crime affecting the country, as it is obvious that the police force cannot contain the situation.
The criminals are smarter than the police, as far as I can see.
There is a lot of geospatial technology and biometric solutions out there that can assist in at least identifying the criminals in their activities, especially along the roadway. I am certain that even criminals use our roadway and there is technology to track them after the fact with cameras hidden in the 300,000-plus utility poles that connect this country.
These criminals know that there is no system in place to identify them or track them after the fact. They know that our court system is slow, and they know that they can intimidate or kill witnesses.
They know that the people that make up our Government and the police service are slow to act in making the necessary changes to make it more effective to trap criminals.
Let’s change this thinking and remove their confidence with action.
