Dear Editor,
On behalf of the residents, motorists and non-garage businesses, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), traffic police and Public Health Department for the remarkable achievement of getting the garage operators off the streets on Connolley Avenue and the general Allman Town area. Traffic flow is much better and the health and safety hazards from the used motor oil have been reduced.
This last point is worth reiterating as there is a prominent preparatory school just up the road from the garages and several residents living on that road as well. Before the KSAC, police and public health authority intervened, there were blatant instances of disregard for law, order and decency, wherein parked vehicles, including buses, were blocking the entrances to people’s homes, causing nightmarish traffic congestion, and presenting health risks as the old motor oil was often released on the roadway as the cars were fixed.
I know that it is tough maintaining law, order and decency on a thin budget, but this is the only way that Jamaica will be improved over time, as laws are enforced for the benefit of Jamaican citizens as a whole. This is absolutely crucial to the normal functioning of Jamaica and for encouraging decent citizens to live and invest in Jamaica.
I respect the investment of the garage operators. All I ask is that they respect mine as well.
Despite the constraints of the KSAC and traffic police, I urge that they remain vigilant as Connolley Avenue and the general Allman Town area have been cleared many times before, then the garage workmen and customers start to gradually park and fix the vehicles on the streets again and it descends back into chaos, confusion and safety nightmare for residents, motorists, parents, and children for the school on the road.
Keep up the great work! We are all most grateful.
