Dear Editor,
In a country that lacks soulful, passionate depth of caring from strong paternal figures, in the midst of tragic circumstances it’s encouraging to find a male figure that knows the value of open expressions of kindness and emotional strength.
While the football fraternity mourns the death of a clearly skilled, quiet, amiable soul, there is much value to be learnt in how the St George’s College football team looked to and drew strength from Neville “Bertis” Bell, not just as a coach but as an iconic paternal figure.
This illustrates a form of soulful emotional connection towards our young boys and deserves much commendation as it is a rare diamond in a country which has had its values eroded and twisted and seemingly not understanding the worth of each life.
Dominic James, former captain of St George’s College football team, may you now soar like an eagle without the restraint and confines of this temporal world.
