I moved to the Havendale area about a year ago, and thanks to the National Water Commission (NWC), this has been quite a traumatic experience: Every single month I am faced with a disruption in my water service.
Let me state clearly that I have never been late with any of my payments, and as such, none of the disruptions are caused by any such eventuality. All the disruptions are due to NWC’s poor service.
The latest episode started last week Wednesday, October 5, 2016. On Thursday, October 6, 2016, a day after the fact, a press release was posted on NWC’s website advising that there would be service disruptions in Havendale, among other areas, due to irregular power supply from the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited. I have contacted the NWC every day since then, up to Sunday afternoon, trying to ascertain when customers should expect their service to be restored. I was told on each occasion that they are “unable to state when the water will be restored”.
Unable to state? How? You are the ones providing the service, and you are the ones who have disrupted it, so how do you not know, or at least have an idea, of when the service will be restored? Are you working on it? Or have you all gone to the beach? On vacation, perhaps? So let me get this straight, this could go on for two weeks? A month? Maybe indefinitely, since you do not know when the service will be restored? Absolute madness! You are telling me that after five days I am to continue without access to water?
I need some answers regarding the frequent disruption in this area, and I also need to know what is the Office of Utilities Regulation doing about this continued shoddy service from this and other less than professional service providers. Its role is to regulate, not just approve increases for services that leave much to be desired.
I need water just like the next person. NWC needs to provide the service as consistently as I am paying these bills. I need my water and I need to know when it will be back!
