Dear Editor,
On October 5, 2012, I was driving towards Lakes Pen on my way to work, when I felt the left side of my vehicle lift into the air and there was a slight impact. Understandably, this was very frightening and driving just a little, I heard a disturbing sound under the vehicle. I gently guided the vehicle forward to prevent the obstruction of traffic.
On examining the vehicle, I saw two tyres damaged beyond repair. The cause of this mishap was found to be a piece of iron sticking out of the ground. Fortunately, I remembered that I had signed up for road assistance on my insurance plan with ICWI and promptly called for assistance. Of course, being a woman and accompanied by my teenage daughter, I was nervous about my location.
After some wait, but having reassuring contact with the individual who had responded to my call, I was to meet a gentleman who restored my faith in the goodness of human beings. He quickly sized up the situation and we agreed that the solution was to seek to replace the tyres. He made arrangements to protect the vehicle and we set off to buy them.
He replaced the tyres and I was driving off with much appreciation, only to realise that all was still not well with the underside of the vehicle.
After further examination, it was found that the rack end was damaged and the vehicle was therefore immobilised. A wrecker was called in and the vehicle transported to an alignment stand for further repairs.
In all this, Mr Andrew Smith, the REACT representative for ICWI, handled the situation in an understanding, courteous manner. I felt so well cared for. He assisted in arranging for the necessary repairs to be done and went beyond the call of duty to ensure that the vehicle was operable.
My sincere thanks to Mr Smith and commendations to ICWI for having him represent you on this programme. I encourage all drivers to ensure that this facility is attached to your insurance policy and so enjoy the peace of mind knowing whom to call when the need arises.
