Dear Editor,
There is no way that I as a taxpayer am prepared to pay, if and when that young man who was attacked on the campus of the University of Technology decides to sue. Some are demanding that UTech be forced to pay. This just means another burden for taxpayers!
Why is it that when public entities (whether people or organisations) mess up, it is the taxpayers who are asked to foot the bill? I don't agree that UTech or even Marksman Limited should be asked to compensate that young man.
I also don't think that Marksman should wait until it is sued. Its image has already been badly tarnished by what those security guards did. UTech has announced that it is reviewing its contract with Marksman. If UTech does not renew that contract, what will happen to the other guards who had nothing to do with that act?
I think that Marksman should make the first more. Take legal action against those guards who acted like animals, and recover from them all compensation costs for that young man. Those security officers who did that act are the ones who should pay and no one else!
It is time we start holding people accountable for their actions!
