Dear Editor,
I wish to congratulate President Barack Obama on his re-election for a second term. The resounding victory is a testimony to the esteem in which he is held by the American citizens.
After a hard-fought campaign, the people have spoken and they have sent a clear message, which states that they would like him to continue to carry out his mandate to create jobs, strengthen the economy and compete on a global scale.
The American people have convincingly demonstrated their capacity to choose their leaders, by utilising the free election system. It is a testament that democracy is alive and well.
With a majority Republican Congress and a Democratic majority in the Senate, I am calling on them to execute their duties in a non-partisan way and represent all Americans across racial, economic, and political divides.
With the election now behind us, I hope that the American people will work together to advance the cause of the nation. In particular, the president should hold a dialogue with the Caribbean Community (Caricom), to address the ongoing mass deportation of their nationals, which has been an albatross around the neck of the region for many years.
In addition, I am imploring the president to vigorously pursue legislation to establish the American Dream Act, which would give legal status to undocumented immigrants, who came to the United States as minors.
