Republicans frozen in time?

Dear Editor,

The history books may very well record the fact that the 2012 presidential election in the US was probably the most exciting ever. There is no doubt that this election was anticipated to be nail-biting. And it was predicted that the final outcome would probably drag on for days, even weeks.

As it turned out, the election was neither a real nail-biter nor a lengthy affair. In the final analysis the election was not even close, as President Obama sprinted past the mark of 270 electoral votes.

This was indeed a shattering defeat for Mitt Romney and his embattled Republican cohorts who have not adjusted their threadbare political philosophy to the changing demographic shifts in the US. It appears to be a GOP frozen in time. Indeed, the party should now be renamed the "Gloomy Old Party" instead of retaining its original name: the Grand Old Party.

On the contrary, President Obama and the Democrats have adapted amazingly well to the ever-changing make-up of the electorate.

One would have thought that in an economy that is barely emerging out of the doldrums, the Republicans would have taken advantage of this dismal situation. But this was not to be. Let's face it - the Republicans are stuck in the past.
