Homosexuality is much more than 'Boom bye bye'

Dear Editor,

The recent incident at the University of Technology has given rise to a plethora of articles and debates in recent weeks.

This now raises the question whether or not homosexuality should be considered a moral or amoral issue. That is, should we view homosexuality as wrong or neither wrong nor right?

David Pearson, acting academic dean at the Jamaica Theological Seminary, claimed that Jesus did not confront homosexuality, so there is no paradigm to follow as far as Jesus' position is concerned. But Jesus did deal implicitly with homosexuality in Matthew 19:4-5. The Greek words Jesus used for male and female are arsen and thaylu respectively. Arsen refers specifically to the male species. And thaylu refers to the female species. So what Jesus is implying is that as far as our sexuality is concerned, sexual intimacy should be between male and female, preferably in a marital union. So there is no ambiguity as far as Jesus' position is concerned.

From a Judeo-Christian ethical viewpoint, homosexuality cannot be seen as an amoral issue; the UTech incident has shown that we have to be definitive. And even if we do not choose to appeal to Jesus, Judaism, Christianity, or even to the Bible, nature will reveal to us that homosexuality is much more than a matter of right or wrong. It is much more than Boom bye bye, whether inside or outside the Cabinet. Walk well, my friend.
