Dear Editor,
I am noticing the complaints of some Jamaicans that the Government is not doing enough to build the country and deal with issues. But I want to know from these same people what is their individual responsibility as a citizen to build Jamaica.
I ask because I find that this is lacking in our discussions. Critics complain that the import bill is too high or the local manufacturing industry is underperforming. But I notice that the supermarkets of the said critics are filled with imported items. Some complain that food prices are too high. But none of these critics will plant a tomato plant in their backyards.
We are criticising the Government for its response to the chik-V outbreak yet we forget that some Jamaicans are the ones who create havens for mosquitoes through insanitary conditions. Others constantly speak about the high cost of electricity. But how many of us actually conserve?
The point is that all Jamaicans have a skin in the game to grow our country. We should take some responsibility for some of our problems.
