Dear Editor,

Jamaicans have a great penchant for scandals, and if it is not even close they will make every effort to make something out of nothing.

A few weeks ago it was the leader of the Opposition's new house under construction in Beverly Hills, which resulted in very unkind and cruel remarks being made about Andrew Holness and his wife by people who have nothing to do and are envious and wicked.

This week it is the Outameni property in Trelawny, which is the subject of their venom.

This property which had a valuation of over $300 million when it was purchased by the National Housing Trust (NHT) nearly two years ago for $180 million, and now it has become the whip on the back of the chairman of the board, Easton Douglas.

Anybody who has met him will come away with a feeling of awe as to how brilliant a mind he still possesses, even at the age when most people would have thrown in the towel. And so I believe the NHT is in safe and competent hands, and there is no doubt in my mind that a credible solution will result from this impasse.

One of the things that keep haunting me is whether the critics in this matter are one and the same as in the Andrew Holness saga.

My humble suggestion to the NHT board is, if they have breached the rules, they should put the property up for immediate sale, which could realise a very handsome profit.
