Dear Editor,
I read your front page story on Friday, November 7, 2014, 'Fear Not', with a heavy heart.
As a Flow employee I received the news about Cable and Wireless with a strong sense of fear of what the future holds for me and my colleagues. Ms Silvera's comments in the paper did nothing to make me or my co-workers feel any better. Actually, I would say that the comments were insensitive at best.
Because of the concerns I have, I have been trying to find out more about what Cable and Wireless has been saying by reading articles and asking people in the know.
One piece of information from an accountant friend of mine is that Cable and Wireless may save US$24 million on staff cuts over the next few years. He tells me that this may be what the shareholders and stakeholders are eying.
So, why are they telling the media different things? I am not alone among my co-workers in feeling kept in the dark. But, of course, we can't say anything as we are concerned for our positions.
I would really like Cable and Wireless to shoot straight when it comes to dealing with Flow staff. We are hard-working Jamaicans who are proud of the company we have helped to build. Please Cable and Wireless, reward that loyalty with honesty.
