Dear Editor,
I have always regarded Minister Robert Pickersgill as an urbane, level-headed gentleman, which explains the shock and horror I felt when I saw him on television describing one group of our citizens, in a rather matter-of-fact and most disparaging manner, as "ordinary Jamaicans".
Leaders must try to restrain themselves when they speak in public and moreso about a section of our population. Whether they tweet or not, they can be looked up to as examples to be followed.
When "ordinary" people hear their heroes describe them in such a contemptuous manner, they will in turn, show contempt for authority, which is what we have been witnessing around the country with increasing regularity.
Try to do better, Minister.
