Dear Editor,
Heartiest congratulations to the Planning Committee of the Manchester Bi-Centenary celebrations for keeping our heritage alive.
I understand that the committee will be identifying two hundred 'icons' of the parish, including National Hero Norman Manley and Daisy Coke.
I respectfully suggest, without prejudice, in case of oversight that consideration be given to the following:
* James Knight, the first recorded Christian martyr of the parish. He worked on the Lyndhurst Estate and his site of memory is at Skull Point near to the police station at Mile Gully. One of his descendants is Bishop Alfred Reid, former Lord Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
* The movement in 1937 begun by Rev Walter Lewis for free public libraries in Jamaica.
* W F Bailey, former teacher from Walderston and father of Amy Bailey, for his pioneering work in the formation of the Jamaica Union of Teachers.
* Molly Rhone from Cross Keys of international netball fame.
* Lord Bill Morris of Bombay, Walderston.
Thank you for your kind attention.
