I am a happy Jamaican at this time because I see where the Government is doing what it takes to generate growth and bring this country up to standards that are acceptable worldwide.
Last year was a year in which great strides were made by all arms of government to improve the quality of life of Jamaica's citizens. Just look at the number of people who got titles to land to help improve themselves. Also, there were more approvals for development right across the country; plazas, housing, etc, giving more people employment. There was also improvement in the supply of water and electricity to places that didn't have.
Away from the CHIKV saga, the health ministry did a great job. The health centres islandwide came in for great upgrading, more visits by doctors and dentists, cancer research, and more places for people who are sick with their kidneys to receive treatment. The children's hospital came in for special treatment and the preparation for Ebola has gone well. Yes, there are still problems, but we are getting there.
Last year there were fewer curfews yet there was less crime. Fewer young people went to jail and there was smart policing at work. Plus, the justice ministry has some laws in Parliament to stop the abuse and halt the denying of rights of citizens. Jamaica is much safer because of the programmes started by these two ministries.
I remember there was a loud cry about children in police lock-ups and there being abuse of others in State care. I am sure we will have noticed that this is a problem of the past because of the work of the Ministry of Youth and Culture.
I could go on and on, but I will just give a few significant achievments. There are more if we mention education, agriculture, tourism, and sports.
I hope this year will be even better so that Jamaica will benefit.
