If you don't vote, don't complain

Dear Editor,

Why must we, as a country, cut away the the very fabric of our democracy by hiding away from the polls?

We have seen over the last two general and local elections an increase in voter apathy in which less than 50 per cent and 45 per cent of the electorate voted, respectively. It is even more definitive when more that three MPs got elected with less that 43 per cent of the electorate in their constituencies voting and local government legislators got elected with less than 20 per cent of the electors voting. This can't be good for our democracy and nation-building.

Parliament is the highest court of the land, and if we continue to distance ourselves from the processes that elect our lawmakers why cry out for justice? Why call for an equitable tax system? And why tremble and peep through your curtains for good governance?
