Dear Editor,
I am really dissatisfied by the way in which the Government of Jamaica continues to disrespect its own people.
The visit to Jamaica by the President of the United States Barack Obama has now propelled the Government to suddenly proceed to roadworks which I know could have been done before now. Their favourite expression is, "We don't have any money", yet now the money came out of mid air.
In regards to the homeless/mentally challenged being moved off the streets, I honestly have no problems at all with the disruption of their present location. I know that they can create serious problems for society. But, why wait until now?
The vendors at Heroes Circle have been dislodged too. Is the Government going to find a suitable place for them to continue their commerce? I would honestly hope so.
When Portia Simpson Miller was asked by journalists about the roadworks, her answer "When we have our sisters, grandmothers, aunts, and uncles coming we always clean up our house", is an insult to the country and the Jamaican people.
Growing up, I was taught, especially by my mother and grandmother, that God does not reside in a dirty environment. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Therefore, we should always clean the house whether we're expecting visitors or not. The idea that we should clean the house when we have visitors is utter garbage! That idea is nothing but an old distorted mentality that we need to liberate from our minds.
Please wake up from your slumber, Jamaica. Obama is not oblivious to some of the slackness, injustices, and poverty in various countries. He's no stranger to them. We cannot fool him.
I pray that Obama's visit to our beautiful island, Jamaica, will have some positive impact on us as a nation and will navigate us to a path of success.
Let us try to love all people; we're one in Christ.
Dismantle the facade and embrace true character.
