Dear Editor,
Many times for one reason or another I come almost to the end of my tolerance with the Jamaica Observer. But just when I get exasperated with the newspaper, along comes a Saturday edition with a wonderful column by the incomparable Keeble McFarlane.
His tribute last Saturday just blew me away. It was vintage McFarlane. In this brilliant tribute the columnist managed to blend superb writing and insightful knowledge of David Brubeck and the jazz scene over the past 10 decades with a wonderfully nostalgic reminiscence of both music and musician that permeated the narrative like a Greek chorus. Mr McFarlane stands head and shoulders above the other columnists of your newspaper for the accessible style of his writing as well as his vast knowledge, penetrating insights and insatiable curiosity.
Even among the world's leading newspapers it is hard to find a writer of his consummate skill. I wish that he wrote every day for the paper. Fortunately, I enjoy his column for a whole week until the next column appears, rereading each presentation avidly with my admiration increasing arithmetically with each passing week. As long as there is a column by Mr McFarlane, I will continue to read your newspaper with enthusiasm.
