Caribbean Airlines (CAL) would welcome the opportunity to set right some of the information highlighted in a letter to the editor from Noel Mitchell published on Friday, June 12, 2015, entitled 'Fares on Caribbean Airlines too high'.
Firstly, CAL remains committed to providing safe, consistent, and reliable air transport to people travelling to and from Jamaica. The airline continues to tangibly demonstrate this commitment through the operation of daily scheduled services as well as our corporate social responsibility and sponsorship programmes. Also, we recently moved offices to 128 Old Hope Road, Liguanea, Kingston 6, to better serve our valued customers.
Mitchell made reference to CAL charging a "fuel surcharge" to customers. This is in fact not the case. By press release dated November 03, 2014 CAL announced and immediately implemented the removal of the fuel surcharge to all customers. We were one of the first airlines to do so.
He also wrote: "In a recent study their airline ticket prices are among the most expensive of all airlines travelling to Jamaica", while he did not disclose the source of the study, what I can confirm is that taxes routinely account for over 20 per cent of fares between the USA and Jamaica.
CAL has the highest regard for its customers and we make every effort to provide a value-added service which includes, among other things:
* A distinctly differentiated on-board product, including free meals and drinks in both economy and business class.
* All passengers first bag flies free.
* Free headsets
* A change fee advantage on some fares
* One of the most generous seat pitches in the industry.
In the coming months, CAL will roll out a new globally recogniSed Passenger Service System that will enhance the entire travel experience for our customers.
We are a multinational carrier which makes a valuable socio-economic contribution to Jamaica and the Caribbean region. For example, CAL and a regional university have established a strategic alliance which will be of great significance to the region. The alliance will contribute to the development of the next generation of Caribbean aviation employees and will facilitate innovation.
The airline continues to look for and develop creative partnerships with our stakeholders and to improve our service offerings to all of our customers.
We are excited about the upcoming summer peak and have added services to/from Jamaica to New York, Toronto, Orlando, and other destinations in anticipation of increased demand.
Thank you and the Observer for the opportunity to share this information and to set straight the reality of Caribbean Airlines, its services and commitment to the region.
