Dear Editor,
The present leader is making the party look foolish with his inability to unite it, his quixotic opposition to the CCJ, his five diffferent definitions of what the party stands for, and his lack of an alternative economic path.
My first advice is to replace Holness. That will stop the disunity and remove the false impression that we are naturally cantankerous and divisive.
Having done that, come up with an alternative economic path. That must begin with cutting away the millstones of debt and energy -- costs that are dragging us down. For debt, consider seeking a five-year moratorium on debt payment and using the saved foreign exchange to spur growth and avoid immediate future borrowing. A man named Dixon wrote a series about the solar potential to solve the energy problem; consult him.
Having done that, speak with the people who understand how to grow our economy. The bauxite people might need a variation of the levy, the manufacturers need incentives and Butch Stewart gave some advice the other day about "low-hanging fruit" or projects that can give us some immediate economic lift. Speak to anyone who has good ideas. Claude Clarke seems to have been thinking on the subject too. But do something positive.
This cuss-cuss is not getting us anywhere, and it is making us look foolish. Take the right steps and we can return to power next year. Continue as you are and the present Government will have another 18 years to mash up the country.
