Hang them! Things cannot continue the way they are

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the justices of the peace in Manchester, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of all those who have been murdered recently.

As a woman, I am particularly disturbed that so many of those murdered are women. The young female police officer who was gunned down on the bus is particularly chilling, as that murder displays the arrogance of killers who feel that they are in command, and feel that they can shove in our faces their absolute distain for law and order.

It is at such a worrying stage that many justices and members of the public have expressed to me their wish that the death penalty be carried out. Things, they say, cannot continue the way they are.

While we know that the police are doing all that they can to bring the perpetrators to justice, the country needs to feel that things are under control and that the public can be safe to go about its business knowing that they are safe and secure.
