Dear Editor,

This is an open letter of appreciation and thanks to Jamaica AIDS Support for Life (JASL):

I think JASL does an amazing job at what they do. After being diagnosed with HIV in June at a workshop held by the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) I was told to go to the Comprehensive Health Clinic, Slipe Pen Road, to see a doctor and to do further check-ups. When I went there, there was an area called Section 3 that was only for the treatment of STIs. While in the waiting area, I could overhear people gossipping about the person that was being seen.

After experiencing this, I was afraid of going back. So I spoke with a friend of mine who referred me to JASL. At first, I was questioning their confidentiality and privacy, but after getting to know the staff, I can say that I am now able to get the necessary health care needed in a discreet and comfortable environment.

I know how challenging it is just running an organisation like yours and appreciate the enormous effort put in by the many people at the centre. From my first visit there I have been constantly amazed by the services that I received each time, and I see all that is being done for people living with HIV/AIDS. No words can really completely capture the joyous feelings in my heart when I think of how JASL has helped me to come to terms with my diagnosis through counselling and other programmes. Thank you everyone at JASL, and most of all thank you to Anna, Christina and Miss Jones for opening my eyes and my mind to the true meaning and purpose of my life.
