Dear Editor,
What does the People's National Party (PNP) represent these days?
The PNP of today is failing to address the plight of the working class and the tens of thousands of Jamaicans who are disillusioned.
Before the paradigm shift, self-reliance was encouraged. The message of education, vocational training, and going into agriculture were tools of inspiration and empowerment. These days Jamaicans are encouraged to sit around and wait on bauxite to be revived; wait on tourists to arrive; be hospitable instead of productive.
With the influx of former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) members joining the PNP, what message will they have for the people? The turncoats will be used for rallying support to the PNP. Will they be telling the people that Edward Seaga's JLP of the 70s was wrong; that Bruce Golding's and Andrew Holness's ideologies are the cause of Jamaica swimming through the most austere International Monetary Fund waters of the world?
If the new members of the PNP do not share the ideology of the PNP, the people must ask if 89 Old Hope Road is becoming a colony of the JLP?
Will the PNP readjust to its foundation of democratic socialism or continue bowing to capitalist greed?
