Dear Editor,
The world has reached a very unique time in its history where we are at a crossroads of an ideological battle. Several countries have taken audacious steps in attempting to redefine the family unit, and even though many of these moves have only been done recently, the consequences of the actions have already been seen to lead down a devious path.
One case in point is that on Thursday, September 3, 2015, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis was imprisoned for an indefinite period of time, on account of 'contempt of court', after refusing to issue same-sex marriage licences due to her religious beliefs that marriage should only be between one man and one woman. This comes just a little over two months since the US Supreme Court ruling that same-sex marriages should be allowed in all 50 states.
Just a little over a month ago, a South African student council leader, Zizipho Pae, was temporarily removed from her post for remarking regret regarding the US Supreme Court ruling. This was on her own Facebook page! Stories abound of pastors being sued for preaching repentance for homosexuals, bakers and florists have had to pay heavy fines, and teachers and other civil servants have been fired for standing up for biblical principles.
Despite the fact that Christians are the ones being persecuted, LGBT lobby groups strategically invert the situation to make anyone who may speak against the lifestyle as being the bully. But, as you can see, when these laws are removed, freedom of conscience and religion for those who believe and follow God is, at best, compartmentalised to one's private domain and, at worst, totally non-existent. The result is that those who stand for God are punished by those who impose their own ideologies, and society is shattered in chaos.
Despite all this, several arguments continue to be made in defence of the LGBT lobby based on humanistic reasoning and logic. But, without God as the absolute standard, where do we draw the line? America is already seeing claims from polygamists and others for their own 'right to love'. It bleeds my heart's core to imagine the future of our nation, our children and our world if we head down a similar path. When we allow craftfully worded arguments or charismatic speeches to hypnotise our minds, what good will that do for us?
We must take the stand as Jamaicans, even if the rest of the world falls. We must stand in solidarity with God's teachings. We must have the real trust in the eternal father we pray to whenever we sing our national anthem. We must not sell our soul for LGBT tourism or other investment. We must choose whom we shall obey: God or man. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
