Dear Editor,
I am reading the various news sources, including social media, and the usual euphoric responses to the excellent performance of our athletes led by Usain Bolt.
As usual, I find that so many Jamaicans only think of these things during the period of the games up to home-coming celebrations.
I have been advocating for the Government to give up the Trelawny Stadium to the people of Trelawny and let them decide its fate. First, a combination of local leaders, businesses, and Diaspora should be organised to come up with a plan for the development of the 120-acre facility.
Instead of the stadium being named after Bolt, I would recommend that the complex be named 'Usain Bolt Complex'. The Trelawny Diaspora is among the most patriotic, and we have folks ready, able and qualified in various skills to contribute vastly to the development of this area. Among the group are born and still affiliated with the parish US state stadium director architects who have expertise in redesigning, and marketing, among the critical skills needed. I am aware of the concept and ideas having been discussed among the group, with folks making a pitch to the Government, but for whatever reasons they have got no response.
Again, the passion and willingness of our Trelawny people to see this facility developed cannot be compared to some folks sitting on a board in Kingston trying to manage and develop what is, for them, out of sight.
Let's move on this, Madam PM, Trelawnyites are ready; unleash the potential and let us set the pace.
