Dear Editor,
It is with deep regret that I have learnt of the persistent booing of one of our national Reggae Boy, Micheal Hector at the recent World Cup qualifying game at the National Stadium against Nicaragua.
I must say that, whilst I understand the natives' frustration with the player, I am deeply disappointed because we have deserted a player when he needed us most. Supporting our national team is not a matter only when we are winning, real supporters are the ones that stay steadfast during the bad times.
The reality is that Hector, if not now, will in the near future be a valuable asset to the Reggae Boyz. We must understand that he is a defender unlike any we have seen in our colours before. A defender in the mould of one Rio Ferdinand; comfortable on the ball, yes, a ball playing defender.
And, whilst I agree that he has lots more to learn, I can assure the fans that alongside big Wes Morgan he will soon look the complete player; a potential that arguably footballs brightest mind Jose Morinho agrees, as he has just recruited him for the mighty Chelsea.
Hector, I want to apologise on behalf of the Jamaican fans, then congratulate you on your stellar display in the return leg in Nicaragua. Even though you didn't wear the captain's armband, you led the team with heart and soul, answering critics with a stellar display.
We look forward to the next round as we, fans and players, band of brothers, shout "All for one, one for all!"
