Dear Editor,
Do you remember a time when the buzz line was "the children are our future"? A time when we were taught to protect our young and sustain our prized commodity, human resource? Clearly, someone — maybe from the the parish of St Thomas -- was not attuned to the cause of sustaining our legacy or protecting our future.
We cry out shame, justice, and bloody murder when our men snuff out the lives of their friends and family; but, where are the cries for the ghoulish and inhumane acts of our women?
Recent developments revealed the bodies of two babies, umbilical cords still attached, found on the shores in St Thomas with a deafening silence from residents. What kind of human being extinguishes the life of a child who has barely experienced the wind on its skin?
We can no longer say "we are the women; the nurturers, the caregivers, the child bearers, the mothers and fathers" when things like ths happen around us and we are silent. Jamaica, land we love, is on a downward spiral, with inconceivable ruthlessness and grotesque cruelty. We have become savage and barbaric, and it is high time we call halt.
This incident is nothing new, and for this reason the dirty linen of our State is being aired without withdrawal. Are we a lost cause? For me, that's a gross understatement.
