Dear Editor,
From time to time we read where citizens heap praise on the Registrar General's Department (RGD). But from my experience with the RGD I am baffled to think it is the same institution.
More than five years ago I applied for my daughter's birth certificate and they did not find same. I then re-applied and paid for a "search". Still no records were found. Mind you, my daughter travelled at two years old on her own passport.
Well, I was told by the interviewing staff that something in the way of, "If we can't find it, it means that she does not exist." So I would have to do a late entry registration if I cannot produce the original passport or birth certificate.
I later found two copies of the original birth certificate (stamped 1980), sent it through e-mail to the RGD, I have heard nothing from them. I presented the original birth certificate at the May Pen RGD office. I am still waiting to hear from them.
My daughter wishes to apply for her Taxpayer Registration Number and a new Passport and she is unable to so. Apparently we do not have the connections to get things done. We are not happy and have no praise for the RGD.
