The Opposition leader is the holder of a constitutional office which requires him to oversee and critique the policies and actions of the Government.
I think it is entirely in keeping with his roles and responsibilities as the constitutional holder of that office to highlight the failures of this Government where crime fighting is concerned, and alert the electorate to the increased likelihood of a further spike in murders.
The People's National Party's (PNP) traditionally ineffective management of the economy and the national security portfolio is more likely to embolden criminals, create conditions for delinquent behaviour, and see lives being snuffed out compared to when a Jamaica Labur Party Government is in office.
I share with you just one example: With the PNP Government taking the backward step of returning to mandatory fees in education, the likelihood of youngsters falling by the wayside and getting involved in a life of crime, as a result of their inability to finance secondary level education and remain in school, increases significantly.
I can understand why the PNP would be uncomfortable with the Opposition leader's comments regarding the crime situation in the country, because they simply don't want it to be spoken about. Apart from failing to grow the economy, managing the nation's crime situation is the PNP's biggest failure.
The truth may offend, but it is not a sin.
