Can't afford to support the Reggae Boyz

Dear Editor,

I am a diehard Reggae Boyz fan. Even after the frequent heartbreak I have suffered, I keep hoping for the best.

For the first time since 1998, however, I think Jamaica has the best chance of qualifying for the World Cup, so I have made it my personal mission to support them as best as I can afford to. When I cannot make it to the 'Office' I am tuned in to my TV/radio and tuned out from everything else.

For the upcoming game against Panama, I would love to go to the game, but with ticket prices going for a whopping $6,500 for grandstand, I am seriously rethinking this.

I am yet to see television advertisements of the match, so I must ask if it will be televised free-to-air or on cable. Unfortunately I do not have access to Flow, as I live in Port Antonio, so now I am left to wait on the daily papers to be updated on the match.

While I may not understand the details of television rights and so forth, I cannot understand why when our national team is playing it would not be carried on TVJ or CVM, since everyone can watch those channels. It is unfair that only a select few will be able to enjoy the match from their homes.

If the Captain would like to see more support for the Boyz, why would the tickets not be made more affordable? I am not saying they should be dirt cheap, as football is a costly sport and our team needs the money, but wouldn't a full National Stadium, at a lesser price, be worth more than a half-empty stadium at a higher price?

Flow, Captain, step up and do something. The Boyz need their fans.
