Dear Editor,

The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) regrets the passing of former JTA president and trustee, Victor "Pipey" Edwards. Edwards died at his St Catherine home this morning after a long illness.

He served the JTA twice as president, in 1974 and 1985-86. He was the recipient of the Roll of Honour Award, one of JTA's highest honours, in 1987. He was chairperson of several committees, including the Awards Committee, and the Professional Development and Teacher Welfare Committee. He also served as a member of the Finance Committee and as chairman of the Secondary Committee.

Edwards, a past principal of the St Jago High (1977-1992), served also as president of the St Catherine Parish Association during his early years. He was a delegate to the World Confederation of Organizations in the Teaching Profession during his tenure.

The JTA is encouraging his family, friends and close affiliates to be strong amidst the difficulty; to keep the faith and seize the opportunity to remember the positives about his life. We also pray that God will strengthen the family in this time of bereavement.
