Dear Editor,
Once again political expediency on the part of the People's National Party has come at a huge cost to the taxpayers of this country. Contrary to what Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller would have us believe, her reluctance to go through with an announcement regarding a general election is due to her fear of a massive defeat for the People's National Party.
While it is true that the prime minister did not call the election, it is also true that her actions and her utterances over the past three months were tantamount to having done so. In a real sense, she put the country on election watch and gave every indication that an election would have come sooner rather than later. Separate and apart from the uncertainty and dislocation amongst the private sector, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller's recklessness has served to send our hard-earned tax dollars down the drain.
The millions of dollars that have been spent to put machinery in place for the conduct of a general elections has virtually been wasted or experienced prematurely.
Did the prime minister not realise that her political manoeuvring these past few weeks would have had financial implications? Or is it that this is merely another case of political expediency on the part of Simpson Miller and the People's National Party superseding everything else?
It cannot be that the tax-paying public is left holding the bag as a result of the People's National Party's errant, negligent or politically expedient ways. It is high time the voters of Jamaica take stock of the performance of this uncaring and neglectful Government and come to the realisation that they are all about themselves and couldn't care less about us the general public.
