Dear Editor,
Some people are singing the praises of Dr Peter Phillips for passing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) tests, but my question is how did we get there in the first place?
The People's National Party (PNP) inherited a buoyant economy in 1972; after occupying office for 30 out of 43 years since, all we can boast about is obeying the IMF.
His colleague minister told us that it is the IMF that is running the country, the result of that is babies are dying in hospitals and continuing devaluation of the Jamaican dollar with disastrous consequences.
The IMF is running the country to make it possible to repay monies which have been borrowed because the PNP destroyed the productive sector in former years when we could have been generating revenue.
Dr Peter Phillips refuses to provide the relatively small sum needed to complete the FINSAC Commission report because, I think, he is afraid it will reflect poorly on his Govt's credibility.
So there is nothing to be proud about; we all should feel a deep sense of shame.
