We’re in shambles, but give to our children

Dear Editor,

This country is in a shambles.

I blame the politicians for they keep on appointing the same failures in a never-ending cascade of incompetent promotions; don’t wait for my list, make your own. And still we wonder why we cannot go forward.

Forgive me, if I have start off this letter in a sour, antagonistic mood, but after headlines of malperformance under the auspices of the Child Development Agency, are we to expect resignations and firings?

How many people know that for a major part of our history most mass murderers were products of the children’s home?

But before we recoil in shock, how many of us have actually visited a children’s home to see the squalor, the shared common tattered clothing; the absence of love. There are excellent house mothers, but there are some only there for the money.

What we can do is visit these homes and give to them; and that is why the headline in your paper is so timely.

For this Christmas, give yourself a present: make an appointment, buy a few gifts (even cheap ones will do), visit a children’s home, hug a child, start a relationship, and bask in your uplifting of spirit.

We can turn this country around if we would only find a commonality of good and prosperous intentions.

Finally blame the politicians it is their duty to give us hope.

Dr J Ford
