Dear Editor,
Letter writer Trevor Burnett has written in support of bringing back Patrick Atkinson as People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for Trelawny Northern in the upcoming general election.
But why the concern?
He should be happy since he thinks that J P White is not gaining the kind of traction that could win him the seat. Wouldn’t that be better for his candidate?
The PNP, after much consideration, has selected J P White as the standard-bearer. They did not select him because there is blatant disregard for Patrick Atkinson. They selected J P White because Patrick Atkinson has failed as a member of parliament; he has failed the constituency of Northern Trealwny and its constituents.
Let me remind the writer that nature abhors a vacuum!
Yes, we have worked assiduously to develop this constituency, and it is one of the reasons we cannot sit by another four years under ineffective leadership.
Yes, some Comrades are upset, but let us be reminded that “we can please some of the people all of the time, we can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all the people all of the time”. (John Lydgate)
Trelawny Northern constituents are not just looking to “win a seat”, we are looking for leadership and good governance.
