Dear Editor,
The Government must make public the test results of gas being stored by marketing companies, including Petrojam. The results are now in the possession of the Government.
Some of these results clearly state that some quantity of the stored gas does not meet the required standards of the Petroleum Quality Standards Act.
The Government must now treat these larger players in the trade just as how the gas station owners were treated. The government must now make public the results and take the necessary actions to protect the Jamaican consumer. Just as how they can rush to shut down the little gas stations, the government must now equally act in this matter. They must show that it’s not only the little man they have strength for.
There must be no cover-up, no protection or special treatment for a player in the trade who wilfully sells bad gas to the public. The Government’s primary responsibility is the Jamaican people, not some commercial entity. Disclose the test results, act decisively, and compensate motorists whose vehicles were damaged as a result of this bad gas.
