Transformational leadership is one of the key pillars necessary for successful society. Try as I might, I am unable to single out transformational leaders in the Jamaican society of today. Gone are the days when leaders took to the podiums with not just speeches, but vivid, imaginative strategies for growth of the economy coupled with a love for the land.
Political parties aside, there will be no success to reap without visionaries for leaders. We want to witness plans giving way to achievements with a greater level of accountability. It would appear as if patriotism and resilience are left solely on the legacy of our national heroes and we have no modern-day heroes in our Jamaican society.
What will we have to pass down to future generations other than our history? When the pictures and history literature tell the story of the Jamaica that was, how will they be able to resonate with the Jamaica that is?
It is not good enough for our leaders to revert to mediocre ways of guiding the country’s resources and citizens. Much more, much more, is required and expected.
