Dear Editor,
Elections are in the air and it concerns me that a wide cross section of the society has been practising this misguided idea of staying away from the electoral process and not vote. In maintaining a democracy this is most reckless and selfish idea. However misguided and selfish, this is a fact of life here in Jamaica.
I am appalled by the number of well-thinking, highly educated, successful and Christian individuals who deliberately do not vote, but also they complain about the number of ruinous idiots, vagabonds and morons that find themselves into public and representational offices.
All decent, law-abiding Jamaicans must immediately use their brains and not their bellies, pockets and SUVs to think, then vote for a better Jamaica. We should have our democracy to work for us and not allow our beautiful country to be captured by an assortment of morons and scoundrels. I appeal to the youth, elders and to the intellectuals, poor people, rich people, middle and middling classes, particularly, to get out your voter identification, think and prepare to cast your vote for the best choice and protect Jamaica’s democracy.
