Dear Editor,

Jamaica can be proud, of its advancements in its advocacy of and progression on women’s rights. This is no more evident than in the number of female candidates that are on display for both political parties.

The People’s National Party (PNP) has an impressive line-up of 13 female candidates for the next general election. The PNP has been the main architect of women’s rights and the empowerment of women through an organisation like the PNP Women’s Movement, which was pioneered by the late Michael Manley.

These 13 females that the PNP has presented have impressed me, to say the least. The PNP has clearly scoured Jamaica’s landscape to unearth some of the country’s most socially minded, highly skilled, charismatic, and very influential women leaders to add value to their cause and Jamaica.

The PNP super line-up includes: the Duncan sisters, Marsha Francis, Denise Daley, Lisa Hanna, Norma Lue Lindsay, Jaqueline O’Gilvie, Sharon Ffolkes-Abrahams, Natalie Neita-Headley, Phyllis Mitchell, Ashley-Ann Foster, Lisa-Ann Edwards, and the team captain Portia Simpson Miller.

The organisation can take a great amount of credit for its role in the advancement of female leaders in Jamaica. As a father of three beautiful and bright young girls, I shall remain optimistic for their future.
