I’d rather watch something on Black History Month

Dear Editor,

The People’s National Party (PNP) is really wasting our time in this short campaign period, trying to rouse up argument into Andrew Holness’s finances. Seriously! Why are they trying to sidetrack Jamaicans with such a trivial issue while other problems need attention?

There are water management, jobs, crime and undecided voters to focus on, yet they are back with the house. How is the house of the Opposition leader of any importance to any campaign, issues or the election?

They are even protesting the national debates because of it and other legal issues (name-calling) involving the Jamaica Labour Party. My democratic opportunities, hard-won adult suffrage are stalled because of a non-issue. Has anyone heard such foolishness before, and the PNP want us to put them back in for another five years of bad mind?

Personally, the debates don’t have to be held, because no matter what they pledge, plead or promise — either of the parties — we end back on the same ‘pop down’ road of poverty and underachievement. I’d rather watch something on Black History Month.

The PNP must stop using Opposition Leader Andrew Holness’s house to gain political mileage and distracting people from what is important. How is his dwelling, albeit a very large house, of any importance to the country? Jamaicans are also trying to build their own homes, so how does it become our concern what Andrew Holness builds? If anything, he is an excellent example of poverty to prosperity, and all Jamaicans should emulate his achievement. Is it that the PNP is insinuating that the house is built from illegal or illegitimate funds? What will they do with the financial statements? Are they prepared to share what were the reasons for such a quick election?

I want them to answer this: Will the Caribbean Court of Justice be on the ballot, since they cannot have a civilised discussion about it in Parliament?

All the voters see are pettiness, nonsense and idiocy. One day the whole Jamaica will see them for the ‘mad people’ they are and return the country to some form of good sense.
