Dear Editor,
I lament the lack of humility which both of our political parties have displayed in this present election campaign. I attribute this primarily to the flawed impression and thinking that confidence, which is a most precious characteristic in competitive politics, is inversely related to humility.
While these prospective representatives were beating their chests and were at each other’s throats, they seemed to have forgotten about the people who, we would want to believe, they are “desperately” seeking the opportunity to serve. Our politicians have largely forgotten what they should be “fighting” for. It is no wonder so many are disenchanted, disappointed, gone astray in their party support, and are afraid more than ever this time around.
There is much at stake in this general election, so much so that it might leave us with leaders, the eventual winners, affirmed of their bragging rights for another five years, while we, the electorate, will be left feeling like victims of a one night stand. Politicians must realise that people acknowledge that nobody likes to lose, but also that nobody likes to feel used.
The way things look, our political leaders are about to forget about us post-election day, but God will not forget us, and we should not forget Him.
