Afraid of the H1N1 virus

Dear Editor,

With two health professionals being diagnosed and killed by the H1N1 virus, what do the authorities believe we should think as ordinary Jamaicans?

We are not certain of the efforts being taken to clear the environment of the threats of this flu. The people are afraid of the effects of the virus in their surroundings.

I can clearly say the Government is not too sure about how to handle this disease, because if doctors are being killed by the virus we are in dire situation to defend ourselves from this disease.

Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton has to do something drastic to curb the current trend which has been going on as it relates to the protection of the wider populace.

I don’t know what are the reasons why these people have died but we are not taking it lightly because we don’t have the technical know-how to guard ourselves from these situations.

We need some more directives as to how to handle the situation and to know the symptoms if we have caught the disease. The country could do with more public forums to educate the nation on how to protect themselves from the disease. We need more pamphlets to ensure that the common man is fully educated on the matter. We cannot continue to live in fear without getting a chance to protect ourselves.

We are not living in the Stone Age, as such we can be contacted at public places like schools, hospitals and churches. There should be a very serious drive to eradicate this disease from amongst us.
