Dear Editor,
The manner in which world and Jamaica’s super athlete Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has been wearing her hair of late is adorable. Her new trend clearly brings out her natural beauty while enhancing her ethnic roots.
We don’t know if she is just changing her style for a while or she has been touched spiritually with that God-given gift which commands she has a duty also to impact the world positively.
The new trend is timely and comes at a time when people of colour have clearly lost their way. This is evident with the wanton skin bleaching and the donning of flowing artificial hair, camouflaging their roots. Black people over the world are looking for validation, inspiration and direction. Shelly-Ann’s new hairstyle is therefore more than fashion, it is a profound message: Love yourself as you are.
